It’s Palin!
By JR Hoeft | Friday, August 29th, 2008 | PoliticsA governor, youthful…certainly conservative…not from DC…a reformer!
I didn’t think McCain would do it…but I am very happy! What a great day to be a Republican!
Update: KC Star has instant analysis of Palin’s speech
Fred Thompson pays a compliment:
“I am absolutely delighted by this selection. Once again, John McCain has shown that he is an independent thinker who paints in bold strokes. Sarah Palin is a conservative reformer with executive experience who will bring a breath of fresh air to Washington. She will be an ideal running mate for John McCain, and will make a major contribution to our country’s future.”
Riley, whom I agree with completely here, shows how the Palin pick trumps three major Democratic arguments.
Rep. Drake states:
“Governor Palin is an accomplished woman who has shown she can work in a bipartisan manner. She is a leader on energy policy, has cut wasteful spending and reduced taxes. She is a woman of great courage and principal who has stood up to corruption. As the mother of 5 children her oldest headed to Iraq and her youngest having down syndrome she brings the perspective of American families. I am very proud of her selection and I believe she will be an inspiration to many women.”
Our first post on Sarah Palin was when she gave birth to her son a few months back, we also ask if she’s ready for the 3 a.m. call?
Also, PWC talks about Palin’s visit to the Middle East over a year ago…while McCain was floundering in his campaign and she wasn’t even a thought on the national scene…yet she still supported the troops.

Everyone can stop underestimating McCain now. He listened to the base and picked an actual conservative. The pick, the timing, all of it – you can hear the wind leaving Obama’s sails. Excellent. The electoral college votes now go into a big ol’ blender. Woo hoo!!!
You know, what’s really cool, taking a step back, is we are now guaranteed that either a woman or an African-American will be elected as the first vice president or president.
Very cool. What a great day for our country! Thank you John McCain!
I’ve been a critic of McCain since the beginning. I have questioned his conservative credentials and been leery that he has been the media’s pick to run against Hillary or Obama. I didn’t think I could vote for the guy.
Today, with this pick, I will happily pull the lever for him. Surprisingly, McCain has been running a good campaign. This just adds to it; picking a conservative and a female hours after Obama represented himself to America–brilliant!!
The media’s response was typical: with McCain’s age she, with relatively little experience, is just a heart beat away from the presidency. I guess that’s the media’s job cos Obama can’t question how much experience Palin has!
While I heard the media last night say how brilliant Obama’s acceptance speech was, I was relieved as I found his speech less than convincing. I thought Bill made a better speech for change than Obama did.
Let’s get ready to Rrrrrrrumble!
Tremendous foresight by John McCain. Not only does it win over women identity voters for 2008, but it also sets up well for 2012. This could be an indication that McCain will run again against Hillary with Sarah Palin by his side. If McCain doesn’t seek a second term, Palin can split the female vote with Clinton and win the presidency in 2012.
Great move by McCain!
Wow, I suggested Palin a while back. I heard a lot of guff about the paltry Alaska electoral votes.
In addition to being conservative, I find her to be….well….attractive. That doesn’t hurt. The biggest drawback will be that McCain will look even older by comparison.
McCain is such a damn liberal, I never saw a reason to vote FOR McCain. With a hot VP talking about conservative values, I just might not notice all those illegals running across our border. That diabolical McCain is quite crafty after all. I can’t wait to see Biden try to beat up on a girl in VP debates. A debating VP originally from India would have been amusing also…..well,we can’t have everything.
Kudos to McCain for a bold pick, i was not familiar with Palin but she seems quite interesting. I’m sure as more information comes out about her, it will solidify his choice of her as his running mate. I’m glad to see that history will be made either way, regardless of the outcome of the election. I only hope she’s a better speaker than McCain. This certainly does put an interesting spin on the dynamics of the race.
What was that pin drop i heard?
Oh! That was Obama’s convention bump!
I’ve been hearing a lot about “inexperience”…
1) She was governor of a state which meant she had to make budget, national guard, etc. decisions…certainly more executive decisions than you make in the U.S. Senate.
2) She has the same amount of time as governor as Obama’s been a senator.
Quite frankly, if Obama is balanced by Biden at the BOTTOM of the Ticket…and Palin is balanced by McCain’s experience at the TOP of the ticket…I’ll take the top every time.
Oh, this really is wonderful. Thank you, Sen. McCain. I could not ask for anything better.
This is gonna be fun.
Reality Flash!!!
I’m giving 50% odds that who ever is elected president won’t survive their first term. McCain because the work load of the White House will kill him and Obama because someone whack job will take him out.
That leaves everyone with just one question. Who would you rather have as president, Biden or Palin?
Personnaly I can’t see Palin holding her own against Putin or the nut jobs in Iran or North Korea.
But hey, vote for the hot chick if that’s what you want to do.
There you have it. Palin’s carrying on Hillary’s work. Good for her.
If this is true, then the McCain ticket is DOA.
As soon as the Press discovers how Palin abused her power as Governor to try to destroy her State-Trooper ex-brother-in-law, McCain can kiss the fifty percent of Men, those who have gone through a divorce, good-bye!
I just removed the McCain stickers from the back of my cars.
Reality Flash!!!
You probably know little about Palin and you sound awfully sexist. Could Hillary stand up to them? Margaret Thatcher? Condoleeza Rice.
But hey, if you wanna call her a chick,…. you go right ahead.
I smell liberal fear.
C’mon Frenchy, you’re better than that.
If you think Obama can be president, certainly Sarah Palin can.
This is history.
You don’t build a ship to stay in the harbor…it’s meant to go to sea, Palin said. What a great statement.
Her passion for doing the people’s work is awesome. Her leadership is going to be very welcome change.
J. Tyler, thanks for participating, but you are sadly out of touch with reality.
It’s got nothing to do with her being a woman (I made the “chick” crack in response to Britt’s post) it’s got everything to do with the state of the world today.
Biden is a proven player on the world stage. He could easily fill in for Obama overseas. Biden’s also a well respected and can work with key Washington plays from both parties.
My real question is… Do you want her for President? Becuase that’s a serious possibility.
If Biden was so serious, he would’ve gotten above 1% in at least one primary during either of his two presidential runs.
Still not answering the question…
Biden or Palin as President?
I like the choice. I think it makes the whole race a lot more interesting – and it offers America a chance to do something we have never done … vote a Libertarian into the White House!
Okay, so I was kidding about that. Seriously, I like the pick. I think it was a very clever choice.
Half the population of our nation are women.
If the Democrats foolishly make the case that McCain will croak while in office, it simply makes the GOP reply – “Great, then we will have our first woman President! How historic! If the left balk at that the GOP asked them, “What does the DNC have against women in the White House???
Check mate.
Palin. Definitely.
But the question is McCain v. Obama…clearly McCain has more experience and will carry the U.S. message very well.
Frenchy, I answered. Biden doesn’t impress me, except at his great talent to attack Obama during primaries and insult those of Indian descent.
JR,
Off topic, but have you checked out the Onion News Network lately? Funny stuff.

Frenchy, have you taken a look at the world map? Alaska sits right across the Bearing Strait from Russia. That’s a heck of a lot closer than Illinois or Wash., DC.
Reality is that most conservatives will see right through Palin. She has a rep in Alaska as being a vindictive snot, who abused her position at the first opportunity.
McCain had some leverage with the argument that Barry Obama was not ready for Prime Time, but now, with his trophy wife, I mean VP choice, John McCain has lost a very large, core segment of the Republican base.
I would love to see the market research that convinced the McCain campaign that Palin was a good idea. They obviously never talked to anyone in Alaska.
I think Virginia Republicans told McCain that J. Tyler opposed her, and that was enough for McCain to choose her.
Ohmygod. Riley’s being serious.
I love this! Dems on CNN and MSNBC are sounding like the most sexist people on the planet.
All I want to know is: what is she hiding under that beehive in her hair?
see?
No message, Brian. They’ve just been hamstrung.
More from me later but I do have to chime in and say how very surprised and thrilled I was when I heard the news from Fox this morning — of course their young anchor kept calling her “Susan” but that didn’t dampen my excitement.
Palin is a brilliant pick and has been my favorite for months. She brings the base back home – not grudgingly but enthusiastically. And she reaches out to the moderates who are so enchanted with identity politics that all they see is her gender. She’s young articulate, attractive and intelligent — did I mention that she’s also conservative?
Palin: all the right reasons to vote McCain 08.
I already knew McCain was a traitor and in bed with the liberal Jews and the media. Now it has been confirmed. TRUE CHRISTIANS UNITE. VOTE BOB BARR!!!!
no wonder they want to legalize drugs…
What an amazing pick by McCain!! Gov. Palin brings in a distinguished record of executive experience, running a successful and popular Government in Alaska. An ideal ticket is one where 1 person brings in the Washington experience/foreign policy/national security experience and the other brings in executive/administrative experience. This can be seen from all winning tickets in the past few decades. The republican ticket is the perfect ticket now. She has a record of clean governance, bipartisanship and reducing wasteful spending and is an ideal choice for McCain’s VP.
For all those who wish to raise the ‘experience’ question – do you honestly believe that Gov. Palin is too inexperienced to be President (a post for which, btw, she is NOT running for) despite being the Governor of Alaska for nearly 2 years and a mayor for many years before that, while Sen Obama is experienced enough to be President (a post he is running for)? If you honestly believe Palin is inexperienced, there is now way you could support Obama. Palin brings in executive experience, McCain and Biden bring Washington, foreign policy experience – what exactly does Obama bring in? Neither of the 2.
Also, it is incorrect to see the choice of Gov Palin as a gimmick to pander to the women voters. While that is a bonus, the most important point is that she would be an excellent person for the role of VP in McCain’s administration, with the executive experience, to help him run the country effectively. None of us know too much about her, but whatever little Ive heard so far is immensely impressive. I request all voters to give her a fair chance, do some research and find out about her, and you will see that her candidacy is no gimmick.
Great selection and thanks for all the inputs but, since many of you who posted comments may not have lived nor served in Alaska let along Saudi, Kuwait, all over Europe or any other Arab land and remembers how America is currently viewed/respected across the Globe, the real question still remains “A heart Beat Away”.
Sorry folks but Senator McCain’s health is my biggest concern/fear, I’m both a registered GOP and a US Military Disabled Veteran. Veterans will always put country first, so you need to really Kick all the tires, and check under the hood/do the research, cut the hype… Fully vett every candidate before you drop the hammer and vote.
Im amazed at the gross stupidity of intelligent people.
