Today at 1pm Eastern Time: Day 9 of January 6 Select Committee Hearings
Today – Thursday, October 13, 2022 – will be the next January 6 Select Committee hearing at 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The Washington Post suggests five questions left for the committee, issues that may be touched upon at today’s hearing.
1) More detail on Trump’s early knowledge of violence;
2) The other Secret Service issues;
3) New witnesses?
4) What Roger Stone knew — and did;
5) ‘The cash and the potential coverup.’
This is the last hearing in October, a time when many if not all of the committee members are in reelections back home. However, the door was left open for more hearings before the end of the year.
The two Republicans on the committee, Rep. Liz Cheney and Rep. Adam Kinzinger, will not be returning to congress in 2023. Cheney lost her seat to a Trump-endorsed MAGA (formerly anti-MAGA) candidate while Kinzinger’s redistricted district clumped two Republican incumbents together so he did not run for reelection.
Democratic committee member Rep. Elaine Luria is in a tight race in her eastern Virginia district where redistricting painted it redder. She is running against a Republican candidate who will not publicly say Donald Trump lost the 2020 election.
The hearing will be extensively covered by media outlets as were the previous eight – on national TV and cable (NBC, MSNBC, CNBC, CNN, CBS, ABC, CSPAN, PBS) as well as online streaming such as the Washington Post and streaming services. It shouldn’t be difficult to find coverage.
Committee members have indicated new and possibly blockbuster information will be shared during this hearing. All nine members are expected to take part in the presentation; no witnesses will participate this time.
For an issue I consider one of the most important in American history, I’ll be watching coverage from stem to stern. As a Republican, I seem to be the odd man out as so many around me have brushed it off as nothing to worry about – time to move on – with a bunch of whataboutisms by deflecting to Antifa or Hunter Biden or whatever the latest distracting shiny bauble is.
January 6 was an attack on the United States government.
Anyone who doesn’t understand the grave and serious impact of that is willfully blind.
