Wendell Walker Is In

It’s official. After announcing Monday that he would make an announcement [1] on Tuesday, Lynchburg resident Wendell Walker [2] is seeking the Republican nomination for House District 23, the seat that Delegate Scott Garrett currently holds. Garrett announced Monday [3] he will be retiring at the end of this term.

He made the announcement Tuesday afternoon at Monument Terrance in Lynchburg. Elected officials joining him were Robert Bailey, Bethany Harrison for Lynchburg Commonwealth’s Attorney, Sheriff Don Sloan, Mitchell W. Nuckles, and others from across the region.

Walker’s background and experience could be a steadying force in Richmond. He has held numerous party positions throughout the years including 6th Congressional Chairman, Lynchburg Republican Committee chairman, and has been a member of RPV’s State Central Committee for years. He lives in Lynchburg with his wife, Patsy, who is in leadership with the Virginia Republican Women.

Because of his longtime association with Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg and his friendship with the Falwell family that goes back decades, Walker should have little trouble finding conservative support for the 23rd District delegate seat.

The deadline for candidates to file is Thursday at 5:00 p.m.
