Wendell Walker Considering Running for GOP Nomination for HD-23

Wendell Walker, who serves as the Western Vice Chairman for the Republican Party of Virginia, has announced he is considering seeking the Republican nomination for House District 23, the seat that Delegate Scott Garrett currently holds. Garrett announced Monday he will be retiring at the end of this term.

Walker said he will be making an announcement regarding his intentions on Tuesday. 

A long-time bridge builder within the party, Wendell has been instrumental in trying to pull the warring factions together over the years. His background and experience have been a steadying force at turbulent times and could be useful in Richmond especially if Democrats are able to gain control of the General Assembly.

Walker has held numerous party positions throughout the years including 6th Congressional Chairman, Lynchburg Republican Committee chairman, and has been a member of RPV’s State Central Committee for years. He lives in Lynchburg with his wife, Patsy, who is in leadership with the Virginia Republican Women.

While it is difficult to lose Scott Garrett, Wendell Walker would go far in calming some anxieties. Because of his longtime association with Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg and his friendship with the Falwell family that goes back decades, Wendell should have little trouble finding support for the 23rd District delegate seat.

Delegate Scott Garrett’s Resignation & Pending Decision on Candidacy.

For many years, Delegate Scott Garrett has been a tremendous leader and representative for his constituents in the 23rd District House of Delegates, and I am grateful for his service. Delegate Garrett has tirelessly advocated for our conservative core values of faith, freedom, and family, and his decision to step down to focus on his family is in line with these principles. Scott will be sorely missed!

These same core principles of faith, family, and freedom must be continuously represented and advocated in Richmond, or we will see them eroded away. We will need a tried and true conservative leader in Richmond to represent the 23rd House District.

On Tuesday, March 26th, I will be making an announcement regarding my intentions for this seat.
