Dave Bourne Officially Kicks Off 20th House District Campaign

A second official Republican candidate is entering the race for the 20th House of Delegates seat that will be open in November. Former Staunton mayor John Avoli has also formally announced [1] (see also here [2] and here [3]).

Dave Bourne attended last week’s Augusta County Republican Committee meeting and addressed members while saying at the time he was definitely going to be in the race.

Born in California, his family moved to Virginia when he was in the 6th grade, settling in Tazewell County. He ended up in law enforcement and worked at a jail for 10 months, learning the human side of the people who were incarcerated.

After leaving jail employment, he remembered the people he had encountered during his time at the jail and wanted to somehow help them so he started his own company and for 27 years was a bail bondsman. He went on to serve as a legislative chair for the group where he became involved with what goes on in Richmond.

His two sons are police officers.

Bourne touted himself as a new politician, not the same as it’s been in the past, and said he would bring a different face to Richmond.
