Resolution of No Confidence Voted For 6th District SCC Members
A Resolution of No Confidence was passed Thursday night by the Lynchburg City Republican Committee against Sixth District’s State Central Committee representatives Steven Troxel, Nathan Boyer, Carrie Thompson, Anne Fitzgerald, and Joseph Sonsmith.
The resolution was a result of a controversial 6th District vote in June that allocated up to $30,000 of the committee’s funds for the legal defense of the Committee, contrary to the district committee’s bylaws.
A vote of no confidence shows that the majority does not support a policy or vote of leaders on particular issues.
A Resolution of No Confidence
Whereas, the Lynchburg Republican City Committee is located wholly within the Sixth Congressional District; and
Whereas, the Sixth Congressional District Republican Committee held its Biennial Convention on May 19th, 2018, electing Jennifer Brown as its Sixth District Committee Chairman; and
Whereas, former Sixth District Committee Chairman Scott Sayre and former Congressional candidate Cynthia Dunbar are subjects of three Federal Elections Commission complaints; and
Whereas, at the District Committee meeting on June 23, 2018, Waynesboro Republican City Committee Chairman, Ken Adams, moved to allocate up to $30,000 of the committee’s funds to retain Bopp Law Firm of Terre Haute, Indiana for the legal defense of the Committee, its former Chairman and its current and former Secretaries and Treasurer, contrary to the Sixth Congressional Republican District Committee’s bylaws; and
Whereas, the motion also appointed Ken Adams and the Staunton City Republican Committee Chairman, Matt Fitzgerald, as the Committee’s sole representatives to the Bopp Law Firm, thereby undermining the authority of Chairman Brown; and
Whereas, this motion vastly minimizes valuable resources which would otherwise be better spent supporting Ben Cline and the Sixth Congressional seat in the general election against the Democrat candidate; and
Whereas, the Sixth District’s State Central Committee representatives unanimously voted in favor of this motion; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the Lynchburg Republican City Committee hereby expresses its opposition to the above-stated motion; and, be it also
RESOLVED, that the passage of this Resolution shall constitute a vote of no-confidence in the Sixth District’s State Central Committee representatives Steven Troxel, Nathan Boyer, Carrie Thompson, Anne Fitzgerald, and Joseph Sonsmith; and, be it also
RESOLVED, that the Lynchburg Republican City Committee hereby commends the members of the Sixth District Republican Committee who voted in opposition to this motion; and, therefore, be it also
RESOLVED, that the Secretary of the Lynchburg Republican City Committee is hereby directed to forward this resolution to the Sixth District Republican Committee, the State Central Committee, and the Chairman of the Republican Party of Virginia.
