I respect and agree with your view of the leading Republican candidate, but I want to know if you have the courage to take the same stand against the equally unworthy leading Democrat candidate.
I have made no secret of the fact that I share your opposition and outright disdain for Donald Trump. I’ve been very outspoken about my disgust with him as even a possibility to carry my party’s banner for many of the same reasons you are against him: He’s a shameless demagogue; he’s dishonest and unprincipled; he’s brash, uncivil, and indecent; he readily stokes racial tensions and fears; and he changes his views more often than his underpants to serve his political needs at any given time.
It’s easy for you Democrats to say these things about Trump. Saying these things wins cheers from your fellow Democrats.
It’s just as easy for me to oppose Hillary Clinton, who is as unacceptable for the presidency as Trump. When I speak out against Hillary Clinton, my fellow Republicans cheer, “Right on!,” And my Democrat friends roll their eyes and say I’m just another “right-wing conspirator.”
But as a Republican, when I speak out against Donald Trump, I take a lot of heat from many (but far from all) fellow Republicans: I “don’t get it.” I’m a “RINO” who is “part of the problem.” I’m “disloyal.”
That’s all fine. I understand the sentiments, and I expected them. I’m not naive. I’ve always known that it takes courage and strength of conviction to stand up to your own party and your own ideological fellow travelers – a kind of courage and conviction that does not come into play to go after people in the other party.
So I say to my Democrat friends: Do you have that kind of courage? Will you do the same thing within your party and speak out against Hillary Clinton?
Hillary, like Trump, is a shameless demagogue; she’s dishonest and unprincipled; she’s brash, uncivil, and indecent; and she changes her views more often than her undergarments to serve her political needs at any given time. Hillary Clinton is the Democrat Donald Trump and is every bit as unworthy of the presidency as he is.
So, I ask those Democrats who boldly speak out against the unacceptable Republican candidate, do you have the courage and conviction to do the same within your own party? Will you join me in standing up and saying that neither Donald Trump nor Hillary Clinton are worthy of your support or of the presidency?
