Virginia’s 7th congressional district Democrats have decided to cancel their planned convention and will not nominate anyone to run against the eventual GOP nominee for the seat currently occupied by Eric Cantor:
The Henrico County Democratic Committee made the surprise move after presumed challenger Mike Dickinson did not file by last Thursday, as he was expected to.
The party put the following note on their website: “The 7th Congressional District Democratic Committee issued a Call to Convention to select the Democratic nominee for Congress. The filing deadline for candidates was Thursday, April 10th at 5:00 p.m, and no candidates filed to be considered for the nomination. Therefore, the Convention previously scheduled for Saturday, May 3rd has been cancelled.”
Thus Mr. Dickinson, the rather, ah, colorful man who made a great deal of noise and noxious statements fades from the scene. At least for now.
And this also means the winner of the June GOP primary will be, barring any last-minute independent bid, the next 7th district representative.
Not that there was much question about that, either.
