Some thoughts Friday evening as news comes in about today’s E. Jean Carroll vs Donald Trump defamation trial results….
In 2023, writer E. Jean Carroll took Donald Trump to court for defamation. She won a $5 million judgment against him when a jury ruled he was liable for defamation and sexual abuse.
Trump couldn’t stop talking and went back to defaming Ms. Carroll, over and over. So Ms. Carroll sued again.
On Friday Trump paid the price, literally, for having no self-control. A jury, after only three hours of deliberation, handed down an $83.3 million settlement for Ms. Carroll.
Trump brought it all on himself. He had already been found guilty in 2023 but he couldn’t stop because no one tells Trump what to do. He may feel that “the rules are for thee, not for me,” but we still have a court system in this country to enforce the rule of law.
Trump went after Ms. Carroll again and again thinking he would get away with it as he has much of his life.
She, however, persisted … and won.
This is how to stand up to Trump.
