9:37 a.m. on September 11, 2001 … American Airlines Flight 77 from D.C. to Los Angeles was overtaken by hijackers and crashed into the Pentagon, killing all 64 people on board including the five hijackers and six crew.
Among the victims was Barbara Olson who was married to Ted Olson, U.S. Solicitor General in the George W. Bush administration. She had been able to call her husband and report that the flight had been hijacked and the hijackers had box cutters and knives.
Inside the building, 125 perished — 55 military personnel and 70 civilians.
