It really is time for Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell to resign: McConnell appears to freeze again during news conference .
I appreciate McConnell’s longstanding service in the Senate, but he is clearly experiencing some serious mental or medical problems, and at age 81, this is not going to get better.
Under Kentucky law, should McConnell resign, the Governor, a Democrat, would select his successor until a special election could be held.
However, thanks to a law change in 2021, the Governor would have to choose from a list of three possible successors that would be provided by the Executive Committee of McConnell’s political party, which is the Republican Party. Ironically, it was McConnell who pressed for this law change in 2021 following another medical scare.
And while we are on the topic of it being time to move on, it is time for President Biden to move on as well. According to recent polling, 72 percent of the American people do not want Biden to run again, including 64 percent of Democrats. Some may feel this way for for political reasons, but many others believe he is simply too old to serve another term. Listen to the people, Mr. President.
