Bolling: The Influence and Love of Moms

On this Mother’s Day weekend I am thinking of my mom, Irene Bolling. She left us in 1992, way too soon at the young age of 71.

She was both funny and feisty. If a friend, she would do anything in the world for you, and often did. But you did not want to be her foe!

My mom was the first member of our family to enter politics. She served several terms as a member of the Whitesville, West Virginia, town council.

She was also a small business owner, who owned and operated Irene’s Cafe in Whitesville for many years. She was ahead of her time in both of these areas.

Parents have a tremendous influence on their children, and both my mom and dad had a tremendous influence on me. Neither had a very formal education, but they were both smart and wise. They loved me and challenged me to achieve more than I ever thought possible. I owe much to them.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there who take time everyday to help raise, inspire and prepare their children for life! There is no higher honor, nor any greater responsibility, than being a good mother.
