Another longtime leader in the Virginia General Assembly has decided to retire: Another VA Senate leader to retire rather than move (richmond.com).

Senator Emmett Hanger of Augusta County is a good man and an outstanding legislator.

The massive number of retirements in the General Assembly this year concerns me greatly. Almost without exception, the retirees were sound voices of reason, and they will be replaced by more strident ideologues. That does not bode well for compromise and good governance.
