Bolling: Public Instruction Supt Asked to Resign, Receives Generous Compensation

A few weeks ago, Governor Youngkin asked his Superintendent of Public Instruction, Jill Balow, to resign after one year on the job: The politics behind Youngkin’s separation with Jillian Balow (richmond.com) [1]. Balow was responsible for overseeing Virginia’s public education system.

Now, we find that Youngkin paid Balow some $300,000 to leave her job.

That is one of the largest severance agreements I’ve seen in state government, other than perhaps for a university president. I suspect this generous “golden parachute” will raise a few eyebrows in the General Assembly from both Republicans and Democrats, as it should.
