After last week’s Monday resignation by South River Supervisor Steve Morelli, on Friday Augusta County announced [1] the procedure to receive applications with a deadline of Friday, April 14, 2023, at 5:00pm. This will be an interim position to complete the term that ends December 31, 2023.
All applicants must meet the following requirements to hold office:
-Must be a citizen of the United States.
-Must be at least 18 years of age.
-Must be a registered voter.
-Must reside in the South River district.
The pre-redistricting map from 2020 will be used to determine South River residency for this election (see here [2]).
Interviews with finalists will be held April 19 in the board room at the Government Center in Verona. To help make the process as transparent as possible, the public will be able to observe the interviewing process and it will be livestreamed. All application materials will be made public.

The county’s timeline:
- March 24, 2023: Public notification of interim position application.
- April 14, 2023 at 5 p.m.: Deadline to receive applications
- April 19: Interviews of final candidates plan to be conducted.
- November 7, 2023: The General Election will elect Board of Supervisors for the North River, Riverheads, South River, and Wayne districts. The elected supervisors will begin their responsibilities on January 1, 2024. The 2023 District map will determine residency.
