Former Speaker Kirk Cox Remembers the Late Del. Jimmie Massie

A statement from former Virginia House of Delegates Speaker Kirk Cox on the passing of his former colleague, Del. Jimmie Massie….

“It is with great sadness that I learned today of the passing of my dear friend and former colleague Jimmie Massie. Jimmie joined the House in 2008 representing his home county of Henrico and quickly became a leader in the chamber, particularly on business and fiscal matters.

“Owing to his successful business career, legislators on both sides of the aisle took his feedback on legislation seriously. He made his mark on the Appropriations Committee where we worked closely together, particularly on matters involving education. During my tenure as Speaker, I often called him for policy advice on key issues facing our Commonwealth. I always valued his point of view and advice.

“On a personal level, Julie and I truly valued our friendship with Jimmie and Elizabeth Massie. Jimmie was the biggest UVA fan in the legislature, and always took the chance to talk up his Wahoos. He was also incredibly proud of his four children–Jimmie IV, William, Becky, and John–and was a loving father. His legacy lives on through them.

“While I am saddened by Jimmie’s passing, his strong Christian faith leaves no question that he is now with his Lord and Savior. Julie and I send our prayers to Elizabeth, his children, and the entire Massie family.”
