Today: Day 10 of January 6 Select Committee

January 6, 2021 [1], will go down in the history books as the day American supporters of the outgoing Republican President of the United States attacked the U.S. Capitol. It has been almost two years since that violent riot that vandalized the nation’s historic building, resulting in serious injuries, trauma, and death for Capitol and Metropolitan police officers, and trauma for the elected officials and staffers they were protecting, who went into hiding to avoid the rampaging hoards.

Today [2]. Monday, January 19, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. On what is expected to be the last public hearing of the Congressional Select Committee to Investigate the January 6 Attack on the United States Capitol [3], Politico [4] wrote:

The panel has long contended Trump broke the law in service of his bid to seize a second term despite losing the 2020 election. But the new report is expected to add vivid new details of that effort, particularly about the cast of enablers that facilitated Trump’s gambit — from Republican members of Congress to a team of lawyers pushing fringe theories to shadowy operatives awash in conspiracy theories. The panel also plans to formally adopt a conclusion that Trump violated the criminal insurrection statute by providing “aid and comfort” to the mob that stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

Politico notes the committee is expected to vote to refer three criminal charges to the Justice Department against former President Donald Trump: inciting an insurrection, obstruction of an official proceeding of Congress, and conspiracy to defraud the United States.

Today’s hearing will be carried live on most cable and news outlets and streamed online.
