Bolling: Defection is Example of Dissatisfaction on Both Sides of the Political Aisle

We talk a lot about the divisions that exist in the Republican Party, mostly between Tea Party Republicans, Trump Republicans and more traditional Reagan type Republicans; but make no mistake, these same kinds of divisions exist in the Democratic Party as well.

Here’s just one example, former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, a 2020 Democratic presidential candidate, announcing that she is leaving the Democratic Party: Tulsi Gabbard leaves Democratic Party, denounces it as ‘elitist cabal.’ [1] Gabbard said Democrats have become “an elitist cabal of warmongers driven by cowardly wokeness, who divide us by racializing every issue & stoke anti-white racism.”

The truth is that there are many traditional Republicans who are not happy with the far right bent of the Republican Party, and there are many traditional Democrats who are not happy with the far left bent of the Democratic Party.

These types of defections will become more commonplace unless the parties can find a way to move back to more centrist positions that bring people together, instead of driving them apart.
