Bolling: The Questionable Candidacy of the GOP’s Herschel Walker

The Republican Party has nominated some very questionable candidates this year, but none more questionable than Herschel Walker: Herschel Walker paid for girlfriend’s abortion, report says.

First, it was reported that Walker, who had made combating “dead beat dads” a big part of his campaign, had fathered two children out of wedlock, and has not been involved in the lives of either of these children.

Now, it is reported that Walker, who has said he was staunchly pro-life, may have paid for another of his girlfriends to have an abortion. Walker has denied the allegation, but there appears to be evidence to support the claim.

If this weren’t bad enough, now Walker’s son (the one we knew about) has issued a blistering statement rejecting his father and his campaign. According to Christian Walker, “Every family member of Herschel Walker asked him not to run for office, because we all knew (some of) his past. Every single one. He decided to give us the middle finger and air out all of his dirty laundry in public, while simultaneously lying about it. I’m done.”

None of us are perfect. We all make mistakes, but good grief! If you know this stuff is in your background, do not subject yourself and your family to a high stakes political campaign.

I hope the Walker family can find a way to overcome this all. And who knows what the ultimate outcome of this campaign will be, but the GOP could have nominated any number of other candidates who did not have as much baggage as Walker appears to have.
