UVa Center for Politics – Domestic Terrorism: How Vulnerable Are We?

The University of Virginia Center for Politics hosted a recent online discussion, “Domestic Terrorism: How Vulnerable Are We?” on March 31. If you missed it, it is truly worth the hour investment to listen to the experts on this growing concern.

Chris Krebs, resident scholar at the Center for Politics, NBC News contributor, and former director of the Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, moderated the event to talk about the threat of domestic terrorism, and the government’s role in countering domestic terrorism.

Krebs began by noting that Charlottesville was the appropriate place for such a discussion since it was the location of the August 2017 “Unite the Right” rally that resulted in one death and a number of casualties after white supremacists met to protest the removal of a Confederate statue.

Clint Watts, a graduate of West Point Military Academy, Senior fellow at the Center for Cyber and Homeland Security at George Washington University and a Foreign Policy Research Institute fellow, and former CIA Special Agent on the Joint Terrorism Task Force brought his expertise on the issue.

Dr. Mary McCord, Executive Director of the Institute for Constitutional Advocacy and Protection, a visiting professor of law at Georgetown University Law Center, a former U.S. Attorney for 20 years, and has written about domestic terrorism.

I’ve got to say, the hour flew by listening to these two who know the issue of domestic terrorism inside-out. Take a listen [1] if this is a subject that interests or concerns you (and it should concern us all).
