Mark Milley Is No Hero. Stop Pretending He Is.

“In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists, and will persist.”
-President Dwight Eisenhower

Over 50 years ago, President Eisenhower warned us of the ever increasing military-industrial complex – a complex that will plunge the country into endless wars, nation building, and potential swallowing up the government itself.

Fifty years later, Eisenhower’s warning has been forgotten – and his prophecy has now come to fruition. A 20-year war in Afghanistan, chaos in the Middle East as American soldiers give their lives while contractors get rich, faulty intelligence that wastes taxpayer dollars. And now, with General Mark Milley’s usurpation of power over President Trump in the final year of his Presidency, the military holds power over the Executive Branch.

In legendary journalist Bob Woodward’s latest book, Peril, Woodward asserts that after the events of January 6th, General Milley believed that President Trump was in “mental decline.” In a fevered frenzy, Milley also believed President Trump would order a strike on China, and perhaps Russia. He took it upon himself to reassure his counterparts in China and Russia to calm fears, through calls behind the President’s back.

The liberal media and Lincoln Project Republicans praised Milley for these actions, and even President Biden backed him up. But all who champion this behavior, this violation to sabotage the Commander-in-Chief, are defending the military complex President Eisenhower warned about.

It does not matter if you dislike President Trump. Or what your political party is. Or if, like much of America, you were horrified by what happened on January 6th. It should not be up to a General, no matter how high ranking, to assume – ANYTHING – and conduct diplomacy without knowledge of the President.

This sets a horrifying precedent – where the military can do this to any President if they wish – including President Biden. This action should not be championed or glorified.

This General trusted and gave information to countries that hate us, and COLLUDED with them to see his own agenda pushed worldwide – his own foreign policy. Countries that want to see us fail and in visible disarray. If the military industrial complex has the power to overpower a President, then we are no longer the United States of America. We are Egypt.
