Patriotism: Rep. Adam Kinzinger Walks the Walk On 1/6 Select Committee

Congressman Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) announced Sunday that he had accepted an invitation to join the 1/6 Select Committee looking into the violent attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6.

The U.S. Air Force veteran, who continues to serve in the Air National Guard, joined colleague Congresswoman Liz Cheney (R-WY) in their desire to protect the Constitution, determine exactly what happened that day, what changes would be needed for law enforcement, military, and intelligence agencies, and document the details of January 6 to leave an historical record.

In an upside-down world that sees Republicans continuing to undermine efforts to get to the bottom of why conservative Americans attacked their own Capitol, we must remember that every Republican House member except Cheney and Kinzinger voted against a bipartisan 1/6 Commission so the crocodile tears they are now shedding over the 1/6 Select Committee are just that – fake.

Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has not ruled out bringing on more Republicans. Former Virginia Republican Congressman Denver Riggleman has been mentioned and was recently at the Capitol. Former Virginia Republican Congresswoman Barbara Comstock would be another good addition considering her work with Capitol and Metropolitan police officers, who fought in hand-to-hand combat on the front lines of the violence on January 6, find a listening audience with members of Congress.

The bottom line: Just get it done, find out what happened, and hopefully we can prevent it from ever happening again especially from our own countrymen. This is serious and I honestly don’t understand how Republicans have convinced themselves that it should be swept under the rug, never to be spoken of again.

History will remember those who stood up for what is right.
