Travis Hackworth Wins Special Election in 38th Senate District

The 38th Senate District is about as red as they get so it was expected that Republican Travis Hackworth would win today’s special election to fill the seat left vacant by the untimely death of Senator Ben Chaffin in January from Covid-19. His Democratic opponent was Laurie Buchwald who had served on Radford City Council.

With one precinct outstanding, Hackworth was ahead 76-24 percent out of more than 23,000 votes that were cast.

The Southwestern Virginia district coversĀ all of Tazewell, Bland, Buchanan, Dickenson, Pulaski and Russell counties, Norton and Radford cities, and parts of Montgomery, Smyth, and Wise counties.
