The field for Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia is getting bigger. Northern Virginia businessman and philanthropist Glenn Youngkin has filed with the State Board of Elections to run for Governor.
In speaking with a Youngkin Campaign spokesman, we were provided this statement.
“Virginia is hungry for a new kind leader like Glenn, a conservative outsider who will make Virginia the best place in America to live, work, and raise a family. We’ll have a formal announcement in the near future about his campaign to bring people together and to rebuild and reimagine a new day in Virginia.”
Mr. Youngkin is the retired CEO of the Carlyle Group which focuses on private equity holdings. A graduate of Harvard Business School, he also serves on many boards and volunteers his time for a number of charitable causes.
This is Mr. Youngkin’s bio from his COVID-19 recovery group, Virginia Ready.

The Carlyle Group is a global private investment firm with $217 billion of assets under management, approximately 1,800 employees in 20 countries, and a 32-year track record of global investment excellence.
“Over the course of his nearly 25 years at Carlyle, Mr. Youngkin has served in a variety of roles including President, Chief Operating Officer, interim principal financial officer and Global Head of the Industrial Segment. Glenn and his wife, Suzanne, have four children and live in Northern Virginia.”
Just so we can give everyone a heads up on who is currently filed with the State Board of Elections to run for Governor we have the following:
Democrats:
- Governor Terry McAuliffe
- Lieutenant Governor Justin Fairfax
- State Senator Jennifer McClellan
- Delegate Lee Carter
- Former Delegate Jennifer Carroll Foy
Republicans:
- Speaker Kirk Cox
- Glenn Youngkin
- Sergio De La Pena
Liberation Party:

Author’s Note: There is a name missing from the list of Republicans that has filed to run for the Republican nomination. However, I will not mention a certain State Senator from Chesterfield, seeing as she is not a member of the Republican Caucus in the Virginia State Senate, nor is she a member of the Republican Party of Chesterfield County. Therefore, she is not a member in good standing of the Republican Party. As long as I am writing the post on who is and who is not a qualified candidate for the Republican nomination, a certain senator will not be considered.
