First Day of Fall 2020

Happy first day of fall!

The autumn equinox arrives at 9:31 a.m. as we move from summer to fall. Days will continue to shorten and nights will grow colder, bringing wood fires, mums, pumpkins, apples, football, and sweater weather.

The first frost west of Staunton has already happened. Those cold temps and frost are key to leaves beginning the process of turning into brilliant colors – red, yellow, and orange are dominant – before dropping to the ground, leaving bare limbs and trunks.

In this age of Covid, some fall festivals will continue with physical distancing and masks. Many have been cancelled for this year. Hopefully, they will all return in 2021.

There are plenty of outdoor spaces in Virginia to enjoy during the beautiful days of fall. Time to go exploring and leaf peeping!
