Republican National Committee Forgoes Creation of 2020 Party Platform
I am extremely disappointed that the Republican National Committee has chosen to forgo the creation of a party platform for 2020.
This marks the first time since the party began in 1854 that it has not adopted a platform. This is important for a number of reasons, including historical ones.
Seeing what issues matter at each period in history is critically important for us to remember what the GOP stood for. It also goes to demonstrate that the party is more than just the vehicle for one man’s ambitions.
The party adopted platforms in 1860, 1864, 1916, 1944, and many other years of disruption, so we should have been able to do it in 2020.
We have come a long, long way – and not in a good way – from the party of ideas I joined in my youth.
