Rick Sincere’s Collection of Works To Be Archived at UVa
This was good news shared by Richard Morrison, friend of Bearing Drift writer and on air radio personality Rick Sincere who passed away in November, as posted on Facebook (used with permission):
Something I’m very thankful for today is the wonderful news this week that archivists from UVa will be taking and preserving all of Rick’s papers, videos, tapes, political memorabilia, etc. that document his extensive intellectual legacy. This is absolutely the best outcome any of us could have hoped for. His many accomplishments and important work will be sustained so that others can come to know a part of the person we all did.
I’m thankful for Tom Palmer who suggested contacting the archive and Odell Huff for doing all the footwork, traveling twice from Washington (putting work and many other things on hold) and meeting with the archivists.
Preserving Rick’s legacy has been the priority from the outset and this news is a true blessing. I know he must be pleased to know that his work will live on at Mr. Jefferson’s university in the city of Charlottesville, both of which Rick was so fond of.
I’m also thankful to everyone for their kind words and thoughts about Rick and for the amazing generosity from all who donated to his memorial fund. All that I’ve witnessed over this past week and a half is a testament to how many lives he touched and the love and affection so many had for him, it’s moving beyond measure.
Most of all, I’m thankful to have had the opportunity to known someone as special as Rick. I miss him so very much, and the deep well of love and support has helped all of us get through this very difficult time. Thank you all, more than you know.
For those interested in attending, Rick’s memorial service will take place Sunday, December 7:
December 7, 2019, 3:00-4:00 pm
Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle
1725 Rhode Island Ave NW
Washington, DC 20036
Richard Morrison added, “A few notes for those unfamiliar with the area (it’s just down the street from my DC office). Street parking is often quite limited, but there is generally private garage parking nearby (I typically use apps like ParkWhiz or SpotAngels to reserve if driving/parking). The cathedral is within about 5 minutes walking distance from the Dupont Circle, Farragut North and Farragut West Metro stations. If driving from Charlottesville, I recommend parking at the Vienna-Fairfax/GMU Metro station and taking the Orange Line to the Farragut West Metro station. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions. We hope to see you there to celebrate Rick’s life and legacy.”
A note about Rick Sincere’s funeral fund: Organized to help Rick’s sister as she handled Rick’s affairs, it had a goal of $4,750. Thanks to the generosity of those who knew Rick, that goal was reached and surpassed with $4,850.
