Response to Vote of No Confidence in YRFV

A press release was sent out Tuesday evening by Thomas Turner, chairman of the Young Republican Federation of Virginia.

Dear SCC Members and Board Members of YRFV,

I wanted you to hear from me first before rumors swirled about our Party.

Earlier this year, Virginians got to see what’s at stake this November if Republicans lose the majority. Young Republicans have united in agreement that Democrats showed the wrong agenda for the future of Virginia, bringing chaos and embarrassment instead of leadership and results.

Since April, members from our chapters have worked hard across the Commonwealth, knocking over 4,000 doors supporting must-win candidates in targeted races. Young Republicans have staffed events, assisted campaigns, and raised money. YRFV is currently planning a statewide deployment in October and regional deployments every month between now and November.

With nominations now over, it’s time for Young Republicans to come together and focus on winning pivotal elections to hold the State House and Senate.

Earlier today, a club within YRFV passed a resolution of no confidence in YRFV by a vote of 8 to 2. To be clear, I have attached a picture of the resolution. I would also like to say that while Chairman Knight requested “all financial transactions” via email, we did produce an expenditure report from the last two years at our last Board meeting that neither he, nor a proxy, attended. Our Treasurer could not attend, so we voted to table the Treasurer’s Report. I will admit fault: I simply forgot to respond to his one email asking the for the expenditure report to be sent electronically. I am happy to send that along tonight. I am also more than happy to request that RPV review our finances to ensure they are in order.

Lastly, a majority of the complaints detailed occurred during another Chair’s tenure. While I’m sure mistakes were made, we are by no means perfect, we can only promise to do better by our bylaws moving forward under this new Executive Board.

There are no financial issues with YRFV. In fact, we’re busy focusing on all of our deployments this summer and fall. If you hear fake news otherwise, ignore it.

We are hoping more Young Republicans will join us to help us recruit volunteers, raise money, and finish planning the fall deployments. We ask that the Lynchburg Area Young Republicans make a good faith effort to work with our organization to do the same.

From now until November, YRFV will remain focused on candidates. If you have any questions, please contact me. I hope to move quickly past this matter to focus on winning elections.
