D.J. Jordan (HD-31) Releases Policy Agenda to Help Vulnerable Children and Families
If it’s a day ending in “y,” it’s another day to be impressed with the campaign D.J. Jordan is running for House of Delegates in the 31st District. When he’s not raising over $100k in Q1 alone, or holding his campaign kick-off with former Redskins players, he’s releasing policy agendas that remind Republicans what it’s like to see a conservative agenda that helps people.
This week, Jordan released his platform to help vulnerable children and families. This is something that a lot of Republicans talk about, but as the former Chairman of Virginia State Board of Social Services, which oversees the commonwealth’s foster system and welfare programs, and as the parent of foster children himself, D.J. Jordan has walked the walk. Thus, it’s no surprise that someone with his experience and perspective would release a detailed policy agenda on the issue.
The agenda has five key planks, all interrelated to one another:
- Foster Care Reform
- Anti-Human Trafficking
- Homelessness
- Responsible Fatherhood
- Criminal Justice Reform
Said Jordan on why he focused on this issue:
“I am running to help create more opportunities for all Virginia families to succeed, no matter where they start out in life, and I believe these policies will help. May our state government be judged not simply by how much money we spend on assistance programs, but rather if these programs actually work to help people escape poverty or vulnerable situations, to reach their full potential.”
This is a welcome embrace of individualism and human dignity from a conservative leader, and is something I wish we were hearing from more Republicans in Virginia.
