Melanie Rapp Beale Announces for HD-96

Melanie Rapp Beale announced Sunday she would seek the Republican nomination for Delegate from the 96th District in the Virginia House of Delegates. She represented the district, the cover parts of James City and York counties, from 2001-07.

While a member of the York County Board of Supervisors, Melanie Beale, 54, won a special House of Delegates election in 2000 to succeed Republican Jo Ann Davis who had been elected to the U.S. House. Beale was re-elected three times and then left to accept a job in the private sector.

In her announcement, Beale said, “As your Delegate, I will be a strong Pro-Life advocate, I will work to ensure our Second Amendment Rights are not infringed upon and will fight for lower taxes here in Virginia. Having previously served as a member of the Virginia House of Delegates from 2001-2007, I have a proven record on these issues.”

On Friday Republican Del. Brenda Pogge, who currently represents HD-96, announced [1] she would retire at the end of this term. Shortly afterward, her legislative aide, Amanda Batten, sent out a notice [2] that she intended to run for the nomination.
