Statement of Senate Majority Leader Norment on the Retirement of Senator Bill Carrico

Press release from Senate Majority Leader Thomas K. Norment, Jr. (R-James City) regarding the announcement by Senator Bill Carrico (R-Grayson) that he will not seek a third term….

“As a state trooper, a delegate, and a senator, Bill Carrico has dedicated his life to serving the people of Virginia. His devotion to Southwest Virginia and to the Commonwealth’s law enforcement professionals provided a solid foundation to his eighteen years of service in the General Assembly.

“A genial and gracious man with a physically imposing stature befitting his career as a state trooper, Senator Carrico amassed a record of accomplishment at the Capitol.  He sponsored successful legislation to toughen laws against criminal activity, protect and provide for our police and public safety officials, improve the safety of our highways, and strengthen the economy of Southwest Virginia.

“Having spent his adult life in public service, I know Bill will continue to find ways to serve. And wherever he goes, he will always carry the values of Southwest Virginia with him.  On behalf of the Senate Republican Caucus, I thank Senator Carrico for his service and wish Paula and him happiness in all the years to come.”
