Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains in February

Reeds Gap in southeastern Augusta County | February 5, 2019

The temperature reached 73 degrees Tuesday in western Virginia, and the mountains were calling.

Winter has not been kind to the Blue Ridge Parkway at Afton. From I-61 (MP 0) to Reeds Gap (MP 13.5), the Parkway is closed due to down trees and limbs on the roadway. Winter weather and the federal government’s month-long shutdown caused work to fall behind. These pics were taken February 5, 2019.

From Parkersburg Turnpike, the closed Blue Ridge Parkway is visible between Afton and Humpback Rock Visitor Center.

Wintergreen

At Wintergreen temps were in the upper 60s but there were skiers enjoying the slopes on a Tuesday when they weren’t as crowded as the weekends.
