Ronnie Campbell Wins the 24th House Seat

Republican Ronnie Campbell has won the Special Election for Virginia’s 24th House of Delegates seat.

Virginia House of Delegates Speaker Kirk Cox (R) congratulated Campbell in a statement:

“I want to congratulate Ronnie and his team on a well deserved and hard fought victory. Running a special election just before Christmas is no easy task, yet Ronnie ran a campaign focused on the issues important to the people of the 24th District. I look forward to greeting him in January as the newest member of the House of Delegates. Ronnie’s public service background, including his time as a state trooper, a member of the  Rockbridge County School Board, and as a representative on the Rockbridge County Board of Supervisors will be invaluable to the House as he joins our fight to make communities a safe and inviting place to raise a family.”

Jennifer Brown, Chairwoman of the 6th Congressional District Republican Committee, also offered her congratulations in a statement:

“After a long and steady campaign, the best candidate won, I whole heartily congratulate Ronnie Campbell in becoming the next 24th District Delegate to succeed Delegate, now Congressman-Elect, Ben Cline.  The people of the 24th District spoke, and their voices were heard.  24th District values will continue to be represented by a solid conservative, and we are confident in Delegate-Elect Campbell’s efforts to represent his constituents successfully while serving in Richmond.”

The Special Election was called by Speaker Cox after Ben Cline, who had held the seat for 16 years, won the 6th District congressional seat in November.

Campbell, a Rockbridge County supervisor, ran against Democratic nominee Christian Worth of Lexington.

The district covers the cities of Buena Vista and Lexington as well as part of Augusta and Amherst counties, and all of Bath and Rockbridge counties.

By 7:30 most precincts had reported in with Campbell winning Amherst 65%, Augusta 75%, Bath 61%, Buena Vista 62%, and Rockbridge 58%. Ms. Worth won Lexington with 68%.

Augusta County, whose southern precincts are located in the 24th House District, returned the highest percentages of the evening.

Delegate-elect Campbell will join his fellow delegates for the 2019 General Assembly session in Richmond in January.
