Take This One Seriously

Hurricane Florence is churning up the waters of the Atlantic even as we speak, and the governor of Virginia wants us to pay attention and prepare. Mandatory evacuations are underway along the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The eastern side of South Carolina has basically shut down with schools closed beginning Tuesday and going indefinitely.

As of Monday night Governor Northam had ordered mandatory evacuations in the Commonwealth of Zone A, the lowest-lying areas of coastal Virginia, Hampton Roads, and the Eastern Shore, effective 8:00 a.m. Tuesday (September 11, 2018). Zone A residents should move to higher ground.

To learn what Zone you live in check the website [1], or call 2-1-1.

From the National Hurricane Center: there is an increasing risk of life-threatening impacts from Florence, storm surge at the coast and freshwater flooding inland from prolonged & exceptionally heavy rainfall. ALL Virginians should take time to prepare their family, home, and workplace.

For preparedness information and resources for floods and hurricanes please review, VA Emergency Floods [2] and VA Emergency Hurricanes [3]. Coastal Virginians should learn their evacuation zone and review the Hurricane Evacuation Guide at KnowYourZoneVA.org. [4]

All Virginians should review emergency situations to prepare for flash flooding, inland flooding, river flooding, tornadoes, wind damage, and prolonged power outages.

Virginia is under a State of Emergency [5].
