Estate Sale to be Held at Former Del. Lacey Putney’s Stately Virginia Home

When former Virginia Delegate Lacey Putney retired in 2013, he was the longest-serving member in the history of the Virginia General Assembly as well as one of the longest-serving state legislators in American history, representing the people of Bedford County for 52 years. Elected as a Democrat in 1961, he later became an Independent.

His death a year ago on August 26 was mourned by family and friends, and his General Assembly colleague, Speaker Bill Howell, remembered him as an icon, noting the loss of a esteemed leader whose legacy would live on long after others were gone. Other colleagues agreed. The Commonwealth honored him as his body laid in state in the Virginia State Capitol before final burial in his beloved Bedford.

Now the family is condensing the furnishings of the Lacey home, a large country manor located in Forest, with an estate sale. High Cotton Fine Home Furnishings is in charge and has posted 83 photos online for those who may be interested in the room furniture and accessories, floor coverings, wall hangings, outdoor furniture, and garden décor.

Del. Putney was 89 when he passed. The estate that he shared with his wife Carmela seems a reflection of the man known for so long on both sides of the political aisle as the Virginia Gentleman.
