Kaine, Stewart Will Meet at VBA Debate at Homestead This Weekend
Virginia’s Democratic U.S. Senator Tim Kaine is up for reelection in November, running against the Republican nominee Corey Stewart, so this weekend, as is traditional with the Virginia Bar Association’s summer meeting, the two will debate in their first face-to-face encounter at The Homestead Resort in Hot Springs.
Judy Woodruff, anchor and managing editor of “PBS NewsHour,” will once again moderate the 90-minute event from Hot Springs. The July 21 debate will be live streamed from 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch‘s bow-tied political troubadour Jeff Schapiro made note of the upcoming debate, writing:
For Kaine, the Democratic incumbent, it’s a chance to talk about weighty business in Washington.
For Stewart, the Republican challenger, it’s chance to shout “fire” in a crowded theater.
Some Republicans have written off the debate a waste of time since Kaine is expected to easily win reelection, and Stewart has split the GOP.
