Norfolk GOP Breakfast Hears From Admiral Jack Kavanaugh

As many of you know, attendance at Republican meetings is low during the summer months but even lower on what is considered the Independence Day weekend. Luckily this was not the case for the monthly breakfast gathering of the Norfolk GOP this weekend.

The room was packed with an energizing crowd looking to make strides for the Republican Party in Norfolk with new positive energy. Around 33 folks gathered for breakfast at the local Max & Erma’s to hear Rear Admiral Jack Kavanaugh speak on various topics related to his service as well as the relationship of Norfolk City and the military.

Admiral Jack Kavanaugh is somewhat of a local celebrity in Norfolk. His 34 years of service to our nation in the United States Navy as a supply officer led him to the ranking of Rear Admiral. He was tasked with running the nation’s Naval Exchanges which are critical in Virginia’s economy.

Kavanagh has been instrumental in leading various civic and community committees throughout Norfolk in hopes of improving the residents’ quality of life. He is a true public servant whether the job be Admiral or president of his civic league, Jack Kavanaugh steps up to the challenge. He led the effort in funding the implementation of the U.S.S. Wisconsin museum and leads the business minded Downtown Norfolk Republican Club which helps fund candidates in Hampton Roads.

Admiral Kavanaugh covered many topics including the transportation issues associated with Norfolk, economic development  and most importantly education. It was great that former Norfolk Councilman Randy Wright was in attendance to supplement the details of the issues facing Norfolk’s growth. Members thoroughly enjoyed the thought provoking discussion and insight brought by our great speaker.

Congressman Taylor’s campaign was represented by Norfolk field coordinator Zach Taylor who is also Congressman Taylor’s nephew. Zach Taylor is doing a great job engaging with the Norfolk GOP and its members.

The next event for Republicans in Norfolk is the first meeting of the newly formed Norfolk Republican Women’s Club on July 12th. The Norfolk GOP is growing fast with new positive energy!
