Breakfast With Norfolk Republicans

Delegate Glenn Davis answers a question from Dan Hayworth who served as Legislative Aid to former Senator Nick Rerras.

The Republican Party of Norfolk held its second breakfast gathering since reorganizing with new, positive energy. Last month, Delegate Jason Miyares and Catherine Colgan headlined the morning with Delegate Miyares focusing on the good deeds conservative principles have brought, while Catherine told heartwarming stories of her personal friendship with the late Barbara Bush.

Gathering at the Norfolk Airport Hilton inside of Max & Erma’s restaurant Saturday morning, a group of dedicated citizens ate a hearty breakfast and engaged with state Delegate Glenn Davis of Virginia Beach.

The group consisted of a nice mixture of some folks who have been engaged for many years, as well as those that have been once and returned for their second event. We we were especially honored to be joined by three great folks who joined us for the first time and hopefully return in the future.

Originally scheduled to speak was Delegate David Yancey of Newport News, but unfortunately he had to cancel. Delegate Davis, however, quickly and happily saved the day in agreeing to come speak with our members. He started the discussion by giving a background of his Norfolk family roots and work in Virginia politics. He laid out why he was a Republican, and pointed to the fact that he grew up under President Ronald Reagan.

Davis said he was a Republican because he saw the great work President Reagan had done in growing the economy, tearing down the Berlin Wall, and beating back Muammar Gaddafi. He highlighted his passion for entrepreneurship, innovation, and technology through linking it with his work in politics.

Touching on the topic of Medicaid, he highlighted some of the positive reforms included in the legislation such as the kill switch, waiver, and work requirements. Davis answered many questions ranging from hunting license reform to education, and much more.

At the conclusion of the meeting Lauren Creekmore addressed members on behalf of Congressman Scott Taylor about the upcoming Republican Primary in June. No other candidate representatives attended.

The meeting ended with our group singing happy birthday to our most senior member, Emily Kircheval, who will be 92 years young this month. (For those of you who do not know Emily, she is sharp as a tack, full of life, and an expert in Robert’s Rules of Order.)

The next breakfast meeting will July 7th featuring Ret. Admiral Jack Kavanaugh as the speaker.
