3rd Congressional District Elects New Officers

The Republican Party leadership of Virginia is divided into 11 Congressional District committees that lead the effort to grow and govern the Republican Party of Virginia.

Virginia’s 3rd Congressional District encompasses part of Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk, and all of Franklin City, Isle of Wight County. It is unique in that it has rural, suburban, and urban interests.

The incumbent Congressman, Democrat Bobby Scott, has been in this seat since 1993.  The 3rd District committee is composed of a chairman/representative from each Republican unit in the district, three State Central representatives, and reps for the College Republicans, Young Republicans, and Republican Women. Also serving on the committee are the secretary, treasurer, vice chairman, and chairman.

The 3rd District Committee led by Chairman Jennifer Lee held their quarterly meeting at Dock of the Bay Seafood Restaurant in Carrollton. Elections were held for vice chairman, secretary, and treasurer. Longtime Norfolk GOP member Pepe Cabacoy was unopposed for vice chairman and Newport News Republican Lou Call was unopposed for treasurer.

There were two candidates for secretary, Kimberly Wingate from Isle of Wight and Anna Van Laethem from Chesapeake. Both Kimberly and Anna were great candidates; however, it was Anna who won the close vote.

Chairman Lee ran a focused and orderly meeting. The 3rd District continues to organize and work to grow the Republican brand.

The restaurant food was tasty and the service prompt. It was a great evening spent with fellow Republican leaders.
