An email from former Republican Party of Virginia political director John Vick made the rounds Thursday, followed by one from his successor.
“It is with bittersweet excitement I must inform you that I have accepted a position outside of Virginia for the 2018 election cycle,” Vick wrote. “I will be managing Wes Duncan’s campaign for Attorney General of Nevada, which is sure to be a tough fight.”
With that, he introduced his successor, Dino Ponce, who worked as RPV’s Field Organizer in the 6th Congressional District in 2017. He began immediately in the role of political director.
Email from John Vick:
I want to thank all of you for an incredible two years here at RPV. It has been an honor and a privilege to work with each of you, and I expect that we will cross paths again in the future. I am especially grateful for the flexibility and support provided by Chairman Whitbeck and the State Central Committee, which was crucial in building out new programs like the Unit Leadership Bootcamp, the RPV Ambassador Program, and our intern partnerships with universities around Virginia. I expect that these programs will continue to evolve into mainstay resources for our party.
It is also my sincere pleasure to introduce my successor, Mr. Dino Ponce. Dino did outstanding work for us as a Field Organizer covering the 6th District in 2017. He is an Army veteran, speaks fluent Spanish, and has already been working with us in Richmond to make sure this turnover is as seamless as possible.
Email from Dino Ponce:
My name is Dino Ponce and as of today I am the Political Director of the RPV.
It is clear to me that John Vick did an excellent job in this position as evidenced by how sorry everyone is to see him go.
I will do my best to live up to the reputation he has established in the Commonwealth. In this vein, I have shadowed him in the job for several weeks and am picking up right where he left off professionally. Any lull in our effectiveness will be absolutely minimal, if it exists at all. Additionally, I expect to meet many of you over the coming months so that everyone can begin to put a face to the name in my emails.
My background is very simple; I was a soldier, then a student, and now I work in politics. Highlights of these careers include deployments around the world and our beautiful country, marching in President Trumps Inaugural Military Parade in DC, indepth study in topics from world politics to economics, and working on numerous campaigns over the years culminating in the election of President Trump.
I was born and mostly raised in Virginia, so the Commonwealth is very close to my heart and I hope to see it set back on the right track over the next few years.
