2018: Rob Bell Again Championing Homeschool Bills

Virginia homeschoolers may be interested in the following from Delegate Rob Bell (R-58th House District).

Tomorrow, the 2018 legislative session will begin in Richmond. As in past years, there will be several bills that impact homeschoolers.

First, we will again attempt to pass the “Tebow Bill” (to allow high schools to let homeschoolers participate in sports and other interscholastic activities). For the last few years, the bill passed the House and Senate, only to be vetoed by Governor McAuliffe.  With a new Governor, we at least start with a clean slate and I am hopeful we can finally pass this into law.

Second, we are again proposing a dual enrollment bill that will enable homeschoolers to take “dual enrollment” college classes (offered through the local community college or high school) without having to pay tuition or fees.

Third, we are proposing a bill to allow homeschoolers to participate in the Virtual Virginia online classroom, again, without charge.

Homeschoolers pay taxes. In many smaller communities, co-ops and athletics are limited. These bills would give parents more options in educating their kids.
