1st Congressional District: Chairman Eric Herr Resigns, New Chairman Elected

At the third quarterly meeting of the 1st District Saturday held in Caroline, Chairman Eric Herr resigned effective immediately. He is moving to Texas to begin a new job. Herr has been chair since 2012.

Bob Watson, who represents the 1st District on the Republican Party of Virginia’s State Central Committee, was unanimously elected as the new Chairman.

Watson’s SCC position was filled in a vote of 16 to 9 by Hanover Republican Committee Chairman Russ Wright who also serves as the District Vice Chair. Wright’s opponent for the SCC position was former Stafford County Chairman Heather Stefl.

Hanover was added to the 1st District last year.

You’re doing a fantastic do with The Jeffersoniad! Keep up the good work!

  • Heather Stefl

too bad right after he was elected he didn’t attend his first SCC meeting because he was too busy and it was too far away. I hope this is not a preview of his new role, that he will only do it when it is convenient or he just wanted the title.

I’m new to the First as well…added when the district changed. I was very pleased, as I am not a Brat fan.
That said, I have not had time to really learn about my new 1st district. Totally my fault…my responsibility.
Are there any significant differences between the new chair and the old?
