VPOD: Doug Wead, Author, Game of Thorns

Doug Wead [1] is a New York Times bestselling author, a former staffer for President George H.W. Bush, and co-founder of Mercy Corps [2]. He is also the author of “Game of Thorns”, a new book that has risen to #4 on Amazon.com [3] and Barnes and Noble [4], and details the 2016 campaign.

Wead is a prolific author on a myriad of subjects, but his specialty is the White House. He’s worked there, advised presidential campaigns, and interviewed and chronicled first families. Wead brings a special insight to this recounting of the latest presidential election.

In the end, descriptions like “self-denial”, “helpless”, and “frozen” begin to describe the Clinton campaign and the tears that flow in Javits Center in New York on Election Night 2016, and the breakables that fly in Hillary’s inner-sanctum, once reality sets in. But there’s also a sense of reality, reflection, and distinct humility in Trump Tower. A stark contrast indeed.

In our podcast, Wead details so many important moments regarding this campaign and some that are of specific interest to Virginians: the role of “corporate media”, why Bill Clinton’s past mattered, the effect of Terry McAuliffe, the tale of Jill McCabe and the FBI, and Tim Kaine’s effect. This book has everything in it for the astute political observer to recall and reflect on.

Listen to Wead describe his book, “Game of Thorns”.
