VPOD: Dr. Harry Wilson, Roanoke College

Dr. Harry Wilson is the Director of Roanoke College’s Institute for Policy and Opinion Research. Recently, the research center came up with several data points about the preferences of Virginians on certain policies being put forward in this short session of the General Assembly.

Specifically, the poll found a lot of interesting data on the budget, criminal justice reform, approval ratings, etc. You can find out more here.

But what I was most interested in was the process of how this sausage actually gets made. Certainly these questions aren’t materialized out of the blue and clearly there has to be some realization that no matter the results, it might have an impact on public opinion.

Dr. Wilson was extremely candid and generous with his time to explain the polling process.
