UPDATE: Stewart Decides to Push Through the Lie About Gillespie

What an embarrassment.

Not only has the Stewart campaign refused to back away from its outrageous slander of Ed Gillespie’s faith, character, and the claim that “Abortion Ed” supports late term abortions (a measure Gillepsie fought in 2005 while Stewart was nowhere to be seen), his campaign staff seems to have spent all day on Twitter and Facebook trying to stamp out the fire.

…by doubling down on the lie.

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”

I’ll leave it to others to find out which master propagandist said that.

The enemy of the “lie” will forever be the truth — solid, cold, unafraid, and present.  If the Stewart campaign had kept it to a quibbling over exceptions (which frankly, let’s face it — a 20 week bill is an exception), they may have had a point and might even have earned my interest.

…but to lie about someone’s record on something as important as the dignity of human life?

Outrageous.

This isn’t a mere issue like a tax cut or transportation policy.  The dignity of human life is a value… a deeply rooted one; not a political football.

I’m still floored.  Shame on you, Corey Stewart… absolute shame.  I hope you reverse course on this and reflect on the damage tactics such as these do to the pro-life movement.
