Perriello’s Pending Gubernatorial Announcement May Throw Democrats into Turmoil – Update x2

Virginia Democrats may have felt they were getting a break when their only gubernatorial candidate, so far, was Lieutenant Governor Ralph Northam.

Until now.

Wednesday’s New York Times lowered the boom with the speculation (leak?) that former 5th Congressional District Tom Perriello may be considering a run in what the Times described as “a move that would disrupt Democrats’ well-laid plans in perhaps the highest-profile election in the country this year.”

Republicans should hope this happens.

The Times continued:

Mr. Perriello, a State Department official who is close to President Obama, has told several Democrats that he is close to deciding whether to run in the party’s June 13 primary, according to two Democratic strategists familiar with the conversations.

Instead of an early and easy path to fundraising and lining up support, Dems may find themselves in a bloody civil war reminiscent of RPV’s 2013 debacle that ended with Republican Ken Cuccinelli losing to Democrat Terry McAuliffe.

Maybe, if Perriello jumps into the race, Republicans will be the benefactors this time.

UPDATE #1: At 6:45 p.m. Jonathan Martin, national political correspondent with the New York Times (@jmartNYT), tweeted: “NEWS: @tomperriello is running for Va governor. He called @RalphNortham today to tell, will announce tmrw.”
