Adams Releases Significant Endorsement List
Under normal circumstances, endorsements are not really reported here at Bearing Drift. However, today’s endorsements of John Adams, a Republican vying for the nomination for attorney general, bear some scrutiny. Especially, in the wake of yesterday’s stunning news that Del. Rob Bell would not be seeking the nomination.
Adams released that he is being endorsed by a coalition of Republicans that include U.S. Senator Mike Lee, Speaker William Howell, Senate Majority Leader Tommy Norment, Senator Dick Black, Senator Amanda Chase, Del. Chris Stolle, Del. Scott Lingamfelter and many others. I only chose those names to share because they truly show just how varied and broad this coalition is.
“While yesterday’s news certainly came as a shock, it is clear that Republicans across the Commonwealth are dedicated to defeating Mark Herring next year. Over the past 24 hours, many elected officials, leaders in the Republican Party, and grassroots activists across Virginia have signed on with our campaign,” said Adams in a statement. “They know I have spent the last ten months campaigning hard to earn their support, and they know our campaign is positioned to defeat Mark Herring in 2017.”
What is also clear is that Adams wants to shore up his support quickly in order to dissuade the other opponent in the campaign, Chuck Smith, and, probably more importantly, any other potential competitors from entering the race.
