Anti-Energy Freedom Group Conducts Own Poll; Gets Predictable Result

Virginia Organizing — offshoot of Obama’s Organizing for America — really doesn’t like energy independence.  As in, not even a little bit.

‘Tis a silly argument.

So what do they do?  Conduct their own poll… and surprise, surprise Virginia Organizing agrees with itself.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch pretty much just regurgitated the press release that was (force?) fed to them by Virginia Organizing.  In short, the poll asked 732 respondents whether or not (1) they liked pipelines in their frontyard and (2) created a coal ash utopia and asked whether or not Virginia should follow suit or let Dominion Power continue to pollute our waterways, create three eyed-fish, and so forth.

You can check out this sorry excuse for a poll for yourself.

Of course, the Governor’s Office had pretty solid responses that didn’t match the hysteria of the poll.  From the RTD:

Christina Nuckols, a spokeswoman for the governor, said in a statement that McAuliffe “has made it clear to state agencies that they are charged with ensuring that all of these projects are handled in a way that protects human health and minimizes the impact on Virginia’s natural resources.”

She said the governor supports the proposed pipelines because of the “tremendous economic benefits that will be generated as communities across Virginia obtain access to new energy sources” but has also called for them to be developed in a way that minimizes impacts to the environment, landowners and historic resources.

She added that the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality’s requirements for coal-ash pond closure exceed U.S. Environmental Protection Agency requirements and state laws.

Now I get it that we’re supposed to pretend to be fair and balanced in journalism… and hell, sometimes you gotta give folks a gimmie and report on whatever crisis of the day crops up.

…but this?  Not even news.

I got a poll: 100% of Shaun Kenneys demand $5 filet mignon.  Scientific poll, too… even paid for a polling firm to craft exactly the response I wanted — ‘magin dat.

Given the kerfluffle in Virginia’s 5th District over energy freedom between Dittmar and Garrett, energy independence is an issue we ought to be talking about — not just for the fact that we want the federal moratorium on uranium mining lifted, but from the perspective of the Port of Virginia.  Whether it’s uranium or coal, we have a future to build here… and there is a safe way of doing it.

Fearmongering (and kneeling to it) and creating these sorts of feedback loops shouldn’t be a Virginia value.  After all, circular reasoning only works because circular reasoning works.
