Cardwell Deserves To Be Included In VA-02 Debate

cardwell_300px [1]I’m on a bit of a “fair play” kick at the moment.

Today’s installment?  GOP candidate for the VA-02 nomination Pat Cardwell, a Tea Party candidate who is running against Delegate Scott Taylor and VA-04 Congressman Randy Forbes, who is seeking the seat from outside the district.

From the Virginian-Pilot [2]:

Priscilla Monti, a senior chamber vice president for programs and communications, said that until contacted by The Virginian-Pilot on Tuesday, she had mistakenly thought only two people were on the June 14 Republican primary ballot.

“I thought he (Cardwell) was listed as a Tea Party candidate. That was what was relayed to me. I apologize,” Monti said.

“How could they not know I’m on the ballot?” Cardwell asked. “I mean, c’mon. Did they not look at the filing?”

“I have got to tell you that he hadn’t been on our radar,” said Ira Agricola, chamber executive vice president for government affairs. “But that doesn’t mean that he’s not a viable candidate.”

So it seems like a simple mistake that should simply be corrected, no?

That having been said, there seems to be a predilection in Virginia Republican circles to use dirty tricks to achieve victory, rather than relying upon the strength of one’s service or argument.

Of course, neither of the latter is being done here.  At least, we hope not… and suspect otherwise.  The Virginia Beach Hampton Roads Chamber has never been known for foul play, so there’s hope that this will be swiftly corrected.  Why, you ask?  Because not sticking to the rules of “fair play” is bad for business.  That’s just not what local CoC’s are about.

That having been said?  The Virginia Beach Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce — admittedly — made an error.  One that, if it is truly an error, ought to be quickly remedied for the sake of their own audience.  After all, they deserve to hear what Cardwell has to say.

…if this is indeed an error.
