Dave Brat Cosponsors Bill To End LEGAL Immigration
Dave Brat has consistently tried to clarify his history of problems with immigration dating back to his campaign against Eric Cantor last year. From stating that educated immigrants need to “stay home” to comparing immigrants to ISIS and beyond, Brat has on many occasions had to try to reassure us that his opposition to immigration is strictly concerning ILLEGAL immigration, not legal, and that he is not “anti anybody.”
Now comes news that Dave Brat is co-sponsoring Jody Hice’s HR 604 in the House of Representatives, a bill that would ELIMINATE certain visas for extended family members of citizens and cut legal immigration numbers by more than 100,000 out the gate. This system, called Chain Migration, has allowed legal immigrants and citizens to bring parents and adult children into the country to keep families together.
Nuclear Family Priority Act Amends the Immigration and Nationality Act to eliminate parents from the definition of “immediate relatives” with respect to those aliens not subject to worldwide immigration levels or numerical limitations.
Replaces existing family-sponsored immigrant categories with a single preference allocation for spouses and children of permanent resident aliens.
Reduces the number of, and revises the calculation for, fiscal year family-sponsored immigrant entrants.
Establishes a nonimmigrant visa category for an alien who is a parent of a U.S. citizen at least 21 years old.
This bill would serve to split families. Any adult parents sponsored would only be allowed on short term visas and the applicant would have to prove that they’d be providing health care and all expenses for any family member on those visas — limiting this program to only those who can afford it with the express purpose of driving down the immigration of the tired, poor, huddled masses.
Also, these visas would also have to be renewed instead of long term, putting a greater burden on an already underfunded and overworked immigration system.
This bill doesn’t do a thing to limit or prevent illegal immigration – it is aimed squarely at the heart of LEGAL immigration and the ability of families to migrate to America and become productive citizens.
What constitutes a “nuclear family” in the United States doesn’t necessarily apply culturally elsewhere. So, under this legislation, a family trying to relocate from India would have to consider their options when it came to ensuring better opportunities not just for themselves but their parents, their children and their children’s spouses. And if those hurdles kept families from migrating? All the better for some.
Especially for NumbersUSA, who is cheerleading this legislation and Brat’s co-sponsorship as true leadership:
“Chain migration categories multiply every mistake made in the immigration system and ultimately are responsible for more than half of all immigration,” NumbersUSA President and CEO Roy Beck said. “And they cause much of illegal immigration by enticing millions of foreign citizens to believe that they eventually have a right to come to the U.S. so why not just come illegally and wait for their time.”
Our legal immigration system promotes illegal immigration? Try to wrap your head around that one.
